Kiplinger’s recently compiled a list of the “100 Best Values in Public Colleges for 2009-10.” Seven schools from the University of California made the list, with UC San Diego ranked 11th and UCLA ranked 13th. Kiplinger’s based its rankings on a combination of academic and financial criteria. The academic criteria included admission test scores, admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios, and four- and six-year graduation rates. Schools were then ranked by cost and financial aid. Academics were given a greater weight than affordability by almost two-thirds.

UC to waitlist some freshman applicants
Monday, March 22nd, 2010The UC Newsroom reports that UCs, with the exception of UCLA and UC Merced, will implement a waitlist process for the fall 2010 freshman admissions.
Some important information about the waitlist process:
- Students may receive waitlist offers from more than one campus and may accept as many waitlist offers as they wish.
- Students must opt in to be placed on the waitlist.
- Students should still submit their statement of intent to register (SIR) at a university where they have received an admissions offer. If students later accept an offer of admissions from a campus where they were waitlisted, they will forfeit their deposit at the first campus.
- Campuses will still consider appeals but students cannot appeal for a spot on the waitlist.
